It was a deja vu for Anya Shrubsole and co. as they were humbled by the Oval Invincibles in the final of the Hundred 2022.

Southern Brave were defeated by the Oval Invincibles on 3rd September 2022 at the Lord's by five wickets with six deliveries remaining. The 2022 edition's final was a repeat performance of the 2021 final, and quite literally, with Invincibles annihilating the Brave on both the occasions. South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, the player of the match in 2021 final, again became the POTM with her all-round performance.

But this time around the Southern Brave improved upon their batting performance but not by much. Last time they were dismissed for just 73 while this time they managed to put up 101. While chasing the Invincibles, even though faced some hiccups at the starting being 33-3, chased down the target with 5 deliveries to spare. Marizanne Kapp shepherded the chase with a calm 37*.

'They very much seem to turn it on in finals' - Shrubsole

Shrubsole, skipper of the Brave side that lost the final against the Invincibles, said that they have match-winners in their team and that they bring their A game when it matters the most.

“We obviously came here wanting to win, we feel like we’ve played good cricket throughout the competition and we just fell short today.

“Credit to Oval (Invincibles), they very much seem to turn it on in finals. They’ve got match-winners there and they’ve done us two years in a row, so it’s pretty disappointing.

“In the end we were probably 15 to 20 runs short. I think if we’d have got 120 we’d have been right in the game and even if we’d been flawless with the ball and in the field it might have been enough. But it wasn’t to be.”
