  • Former South African Skipper Faf Du Plessis Is A Part Of The Upcoming Big Bash League Bbl Draft

Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis is a part of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) draft

This will be the first-ever overseas draft in the history of Australia's premier T20 domestic tournament. Du Plessis, snubbed from South Africa's limited-overs side, has been a regular across global T20 Leagues.

Du Plessis captained the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this year, helping them finish third in the points table, coming over from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

As a player, Du Plessis scored 468 runs in IPL 2022, carrying forward his form from IPL 2021, where he amassed 633 runs for winners CSK.

Apart from Du Plessis, his fellow-countrymen Rilee Rossouw, David Wiese, and Marchant de Lange were also revealed as players in the draft, which is scheduled to take place in August.

According to the rules, overseas players will be placing themselves in the gold, bronze, and silver categories.

The franchises can pick marquee players and slot them in the platinum category for a set amount.

However, overseas exports are not expected to play the entire season, only for a set number of matches.

The former CSK player played for the Melbourne Renegades in 2021, playing just one game.

Rossouw, riding on the back of his national recall after six years, is expected to find takers given his form over the years in the Pakistan Super League for the Multan Sultans. Interestingly, he played for the same side as Du Plessis in 2021.

Wiese, who changed his alliance from South Africa to Namibia, has been part of leagues like PSL, CPL, T20 Blast, and The Hundred.

Somerset's De Lange has also been in good form in the T20 Blast, making him a great option.

It will be interesting to see which other foreign players enter the draft, given that the BBL is scheduling clashes with UAE's ILT20 and the proposed South Africa T20 League.
