The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have announced a 15-player squad for the upcoming one-off Test match against Bangladesh. Ace spinners Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman are among the notable absentees from the squad, set to be helmed by captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.

The match marks Afghanistan’s return to Tests after a gap of more than two years, having previously played against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi back in 2021.

Rashid Khan sidelined for Bangladesh Test

The Afghanistan cricket team is set to tour Bangladesh for a Test, three ODIs and two T20I matches. The tour will kick-off with the solitary Test match, set to be played between June 14 and June 18 at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium.

Days after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had announced their Test squad, Afghanistan have named their 15-player set, which surprisingly, does not feature senior member Rashid Khan.

Here is a look at Afghanistan’s squad for the upcoming Test against Bangladesh:

Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Nijat Masood, Yamin Ahmadzai, Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai, Izharullah Haq Naveed, Hamza Kotak, Zahir Khan Pakteen, Karim Janat, Ikram Alikhel, Afsar Zazai, Baheer Shah Mahboob, Rahmat Shah, Nasir Jamal, Abdul Malik and Ibrahim Zadran.

The ACB have not issued any statement regarding the omission of Rashid Khan. However, one can assume that the star all-rounder has not regained his full fitness.

Khan recently featured for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 season. The cricketer sustained a back injury thereafter, which prompted him to miss the opening two ODIs in Sri Lanka as well.
