The second day of this historic 100th Test match between India and West Indies turned out to be the day where the home team has finally displayed some fight and grit which has made things bit interesting in the iconic Queen's Park Oval.

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja batted well for the majority of the first session and Kohli eventually got to his 29th Test century, equalling Don Bradman in the process. However, his unfortunate run out triggered a bit of collapse and though Jadeja and Ashwin scored fifties, India were bowled out for 438. Warrican and Roach took three wickets each and the final session belonged to the Windies as openers, Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul stitched together a stand of 71 runs to bring back some smiles back in the Windies camp.

Talking Points

Virat Kohli - The Indian King Joins Australian Don With 29th Test Century

Virat Kohli's resurgence across formats since the 2022 T20 World Cup is getting better and better with each passing game, and the man now seems to be ageing like a fine wine. This is his 500th international game and he has made it even more special by becoming the first man to score a Test century in the 500th international game. He scored 121 off 206 balls showing great patience and application.

Also, it is his 29th Test century which makes his tally of Test centuries equal to that of Don Bradman. Kohli also became the fifth highest scorer in international cricket during his marathon knock and broke flurry of other records.

Windies Bowlers Finally Take Initiative

West Indies bowlers were below par in the first Test match but they have shown in this Test they have shown their Test credentials and latched onto the opportunities which India provided to bowl out India for 438. Also, India were 341-4 at one point in time, and looked set to score over 500 runs but the body language from the West Indies players was always positive and a moment of brilliance from Alzarri Joseph that got Virat run out, started a fightback.

India could add just 97 runs after Kohli's wicket and that positive attitude and body language then translated when Windies came out to bat.

A Solid And Gritty West Indian Batting Reply

West Indies batters failed miserably in both the innings in the first Test match, but here in Queen's Park Oval they showed all the ingredients that one hopes from a team with rich history in Test cricket.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul displayed their stoic character and batted with great application to bat out for 34.2 overs before junior Chanderpaul lost his concentration and handed Jadeja a wicket. The opening partnership was of 71 runs and with Mckenzie looking solid too West Indies would be coming on day 3 with great hopes.

Expectations From Day 3

West Indies still trail by 352 runs and need to show the same character and grit they showed in the final session with the bat to stand a chance and put pressure on India on day 3. We can expect India to fightback though with a lot more disciplined and effective bowling.
