India A won the second semi-final of the ongoing ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. They defended their 211 total against Bangladesh A with 51 runs still left in the bank, and will now face arch-rivals Pakistan A in the final on July 23.

As it turns out, India’s semi-final bout witnessed much drama, especially during the latter stages of the Bangladesh A’s innings. Amidst a tense run-chase, Indian fielder Harshit Rana was seen being involved in a heated exchange with senior Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar after the latter was given out by the on-field umpire.

Soumya Sarkar arrived to the crease after Bangladesh A had lost their fourth wicket at 123. The 30-year-old all-rounder, while trying to steal a single against India A spinner Yuvrajsinh Dodiya, only managed to get a leading edge which was safely pouched by a flying Nikin Jose at first slip.

After Sarkar’s moment of uncertainty over the legitimacy of Jose’ catch, Indian fielder Harshit Rana was seen having a heated exchange with the batter before his eventual departure from the crease.

Earlier in the match, the ‘Boys in Blue’ had managed 211 without facing their 50 overs, with captain Yash Dhull top-scoring with his 66. Opener Abhishek Sharma also listed a valiant 34 at the top of the order, while the rest of the batters failed to get going in the innings.

Bangladesh A, in pursuit of a mere 212 to book a slot in the finals, launched their run-chase confidently off the back of a 70-run opening stand between Mohammad Naim and Tanzid Hasan. Despite being comfortably placed at 123-3 at one stage, some tight Indian bowling induced a flurry of wickets thereafter, which resulted in their innings being dusted out for just 160.

The final between India A and Pakistan A, set to be played on July 23, will be hosted by the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
