Virat Kohli punched out a majestic 121 in the first Indian innings of the second Test against West Indies at Port of Spain. The cricketer, on his 500th international outing, rescued Team India’s sinking ship with a 159-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja after they had lost four quick wickets in the afternoon session of Day 1.

Kohli unleashed 11 boundaries in his innings, including one hit to notch up his hundred within the opening hour of the second morning. The veteran batsman looked comfortable throughout his extensive stay at the crease, and it took some exceptional fielding brilliance from Alzarri Joseph to curtail his batting juggernaut.

Virat Kohli succumbs to a rare Test runout

In the 99th over of the innings, Virat Kohli tried pinching in a single against hosts spinner Jomel Warrican. A moment of uncertainty, coupled with a minor pause cost him the run, as well as his wicket as Alzarri Joseph hurled a brilliant direct hit on to the stumps from the square leg region.

Notably, the wicket marked only the third instance of Kohli being runout in his illustrious Test career.

His dismissal paved way for Ishan Kishan to join forces with well-set Ravindra Jadeja, as Team India look to mount a daunt first innings total following the monumental fifth-wicket partnership.

As it turns out, Kohli’s departure was followed by Jadeja’s exit from the crease as he was done in by West Indies premier pacer Kemar Roach.

At the time of publishing, the visitors reached 360-6 from 104 overs.
