In the ongoing Match No.40 between Afghanistan and West Indies of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, Gros Islet, in Saint Lucia, Rashid Khan won the toss and invited WI to bat first.
In the WI innings, they created a historical record and scored the highest powerplay score in the T20 World Cup.
Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran propelled West Indies to score 92 runs in the first six overs, after losing the early wicket of opener Brandon King.
Pooran, in particular, was at his marauding best as he struck a 23-ball 44 and hammered Azmatullah Omarzai for three sixes and two boundaries off a single over inside the powerplay. Notably, the over also showcased four byes, five wides and a boundary off a no-ball as West Indies reaped 36 runs.
