West Indies is taking on Afghanistan in the 40th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia. This marks the last game of the group stages as both teams prepare themselves for the all-important Super Eights. 

Afghanistan won the toss in the game and opted to field first. Brandon King and Johnson Charles opened the innings for the West Indies. They looked to take the attack to the Afghan bowlers from the very beginning. The pair was off to a blazing start and has posted 22 runs in just 1.4 overs. However, this is when they got the first blow and provided Afghanistan with a window into the game.

Rashid Khan turned to Azmatullah Omarzai in the second over. On the fifth ball of the over, Omarzai bowled a full delivery with a hint of inswing. Brandon King was looking to flick the ball through mid-wicket. But the movement beat the batter and found the gap between the bat and the pads to clatter into the stumps. 

Afghanistan would have hoped to find a way to take a stronghold of the game with that wicket. However, Nicholas Pooran joined Johnson Charles in the middle, and the duo unleashed carnage in Afghanistan. At the time of writing, the home team is stationed at 74/1 in 6.3 overs.
