New Zealand made a strong impression in their first innings by scoring 235 runs. On a spinning pitch at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, they quickly took a key wicket: Rohit Sharma was the first to go, scoring just 18 runs off 18 balls. As Day 1 came to a close, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the next player to be dismissed. It was Ajaz Patel who did magic with his brilliant bowling, sending the star opener back to the pavilion after he managed to score 30 runs off 52 balls.

The incident occurred during the 18th over of India’s first innings when Ajaz Patel bowled a stunning delivery that knocked Jaiswal's stumps. The ball was full and aimed at the stumps, but Jaiswal attempted a reverse shot. Unfortunately, the ball sneaked under his bat and crashed straight into the stumps. It was a moment of disbelief for Jaiswal, who found it hard to swallow that he had to walk back.

Jadeja and Washington Star In New Zealand's Collapse

Regarding the match, on Day 1, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had a stellar performance as he scalped five wickets in no time. This helped India make a remarkable comeback and bowl out New Zealand for 235 runs in the third Test. Washington Sundar also contributed with four wickets. Daryl Mitchell was New Zealand's top scorer with a solid 82 runs, while Will Young added 71. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to make significant contributions after Tom Latham won the toss and opted to bat first.

At one point, India seemed to be in a good position, but with just 15 minutes left in the day's play, they lost three crucial wickets. Rishabh Pant (1*) and Shubman Gill (31*) remained unbeaten at the end of the day.
