Virat Kohli mocked- (Source:@ScreenGrab)
On Thursday, February 20, India locked horns against Bangladesh in their first match of Champions Trophy 2025. Eyes were on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to replicate their 2023 World Cup heroics in this fifty-over format.
Bangladesh, batting first, put 228 runs on the board. In reply, Rohit Sharma provided the start the Men in Blue wanted and scored a decent 41 (36). However, Virat Kohli extended his slump with the bat as the RCB star batter again fell prey to a leg-spinner, and returned to the pavilion with a low score of 22 (38) that featured a solitary boundary.
Virat Kohli Targeted With Derogatory Remarks
The fans were upset as they came to see their idol play, but Kohli let his fans down with a poor display with the bat. The right-hand batter was at the centre of criticism, but lines were crossed when a few fans in the stands made derogatory remarks.
The incident occurred during the post-match handshake ritual when Virat Kohli walked down the field to congratulate Shubman Gill. It was then a fan recorded a video where they mocked Virat with 'Chokli chants' and also made fun of him with 'No.1 Test batter'. Watch the instance here.
Although, it must be noted that the authenticity of the video could not be confirmed.
Virat Kohli Yet To Score Big In Champions Trophy
Virat is known to shine in ICC events, but one tournament where he has underperformed over the years is the Champions Trophy. In 13 innings, he has 551 runs and is yet to have a century in this prestigious event.
His highest score was an unbeaten 96 but enjoys an average of 78, which includes 5 fifty-plus scores.
