A lot was expected of Virat Kohli in the opening match of the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh, but the champion batter had a miserable stay and leg-spin became his nemesis once again as Rishad Hossain got the better of him and Kohli departed for a scratchy-looking 22 off 38.

How Kohli's misery ended

India needed a paltry 229 to win the contest and the two openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a fiery start. The duo added 69 runs in no time as Bangladesh were push on the back-foot.

However, with Rohit's dismissal, there was a break on the scoring rate as Kohli found it hard to loosen up and the Tigers tightened the grip on him. Captain Najmul Hossain Sahnto brought spinners from both the ends as runs dried up. In a desperate move, Kohli attempted a square cut, but he threw his wicket away.

Rishad Hossain, the Bangladesh leg spinner bowled a leg-break, which had extra bounce as Kohli failed to keep it down and found the man at point, who took a simple catch. This was third time in succession that a leg-spinner took Kohli's wicket.

Gill going strong as Men in Blue eye victory

With Kohli and Rohit back, the onus is now on Gill to steer India past the winning line as the team has 8 wickets in hand. Gill, who himself started in a flash, slowed down a bit as he reached his fifty.

Shreyas Iyer has joined hands with Gill as the duo will look to end things quickly, especially with 8 wickets in hand for the Indian team.
