A video captured by an enthusiastic audience at Dubai International Stadium later showed captain Rohit Sharma bowing down in admiration to Gill. As they walked onto the pitch after the match, Virat Kohli was seen clapping and commending Gill’s remarkable performance.

India floors Bangladesh in Champions Trophy opener
In the match, Shanto opted to bat after winning the toss. India dominated from the outset, tearing through Bangladesh’s top order. The Bangla Tigers were left reeling at 35/5 in the powerplay, losing wickets rapidly which was a nightmare start to their Champions Trophy campaign.
It could have been 35/6, and frankly, it should have been. Rohit Sharma dropped a sitter at first slip, denying Axar Patel a well-deserved hat-trick. Although Bangladesh found itself in deep trouble, Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy came to the rescue. They absorbed the pressure and built a crucial 154-run stand as Bangladesh posted a total of 228.
India clinches clinical win
Under the lights, batting became easier, and Rohit Sharma led the charge with his trademark positive intent. He gave India a blistering start in the powerplay, with Shubman Gill joining the party. However, Sharma was gone for 41 and despite the early losses of Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, Gill held firm to anchor the chase.
KL Rahul joined him at No. 6, and together they built a crucial 87-run partnership. In the process, Gill notched up his 8th ODI century, remaining unbeaten alongside Rahul to guide India to a dominant 6-wicket win.
