In a significant development, Australia captain Pat Cummins, who has been out of action for over a month, has provided Sunrisers Hyderabad with a sigh of relief as the right-arm seamer is all set to be fit in time for IPL 2025. Cummins, who missed the Sri Lanka tour and the ongoing Champions Trophy, has resumed training.
Speaking to Cricket.Com.Au, the SRH captain, who suffered an ankle injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, remarked that he is targeting the IPL to return to competitive cricket.
Pat Cummins Confirms Participation For IPL 2025
"The ankle is starting to come good," he said. "It's a funny one –- it's not like a hamstring where you need six weeks (to recover). It's one of those ones where it really just needs a bit (more) rest to settle down. So we just ran out of time for Pakistan," he added.
"It's just one of those ones you've got to manage. A bit of a break now, hopefully, it sets it up for the next year or so," he said. "Physically it's quite a nice build-up for the World Test Championship final, and then the Test matches after that," he said. That's the aim at this stage -– start bowling over the next week or so, building up, and should be right for IPL," Cummins told.
Notably, SRH were sweating hard on Cummins' fitness as they roped in the Australian captain for a whopping 20.5 crores in IPL 2024 and the right-arm seamer led them to the finals in an epic season for the Men in Orange. Further, Cummins was retained for 18 crores by the Kavya Maran-backed team and his absence would have been a big void to fill for the Sunrisers.
