The Vidarbha team fought back hard in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2024 despite having started roughly. Akshay Wadkar, the captain of the Vidarbha team led from the front and slammed a ton in the final innings of the match and kept his team on course for the chase against Mumbai. 

Both Mumbai and Vidarbha failed to make their first innings count, but the former acquired a huge lead of 119 runs, as they bowled out Vidarbha for just 105 runs in the first innings. Mumbai went on to set a huge target of 538 runs with the help of Shreyas Iyer's 95 and Musheer Khan's brilliant ton in the second innings. 

While chasing this huge score, Vidarbha lost their way in the beginning, being four down on just 133 runs. Karun Nair and Captain Akshay Wadkar stood up and recorded a 90-run partnership before Nair got out after playing a fighting knock of 74 runs off 220 deliveries. Wadkar continued his momentum and completed his century off 195 deliveries on day 5.

Akshay Wadkar did everything he could to keep the chase alive with his partnerships with Karun Nair and Harsh Dubey, but after his wicket, Vidarbha lost their way once again in the game. This century of Wadkar turned out to be his second one in the Ranji Trophy final, the first one came in the final of 2017 season. Undoubtedly, he led the team from the fron but unfortunately could not keep his hands on the prestigious trophy this time.
