The second Test between South Africa and Bangladesh is currently underway at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The home team has made its first breakthrough by removing captain Aiden Markram in the first session.
Markram and Toni De Zorzi looked in good touch. However, it was not too long before spinner Taijul Islam entered the scene and broke the budding partnership. The 30-year-old batter was forced to walk back after scoring 33 runs off 55 balls. He slammed four boundaries during this time.
South Africa Lose Aiden Markram
In the 18th over, Islam bowled a full-length delivery tossed up at the stumps; Markram shimmied down the track and looked to drive it down the ground. Unfortunately, he got beaten on the flight and ended up chipping it straight into the mid-on region, where Mominul Haque made an easy and effortless catch.
The third umpire was summoned to check if it was a bump ball. The TV umpire looked at it, and the replays showed it was a fair delivery and not a bump ball. Markram began walking back to the pavilion as the word 'OUT' displayed on the screen.
South Africa Over Powers Bangladesh At Home
South Africa dominated right from the start as they first won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 109 runs in 28 overs while losing just one wicket in the morning session. The opening pair of Markram and Tony de Zorzi quickly established a solid partnership, accumulating over 60 runs in the first hour.
Despite the early spin introduced by the hosts, they couldn't break the opening stand. Markram eventually fell, but de Zorzi continued to impress, partnering with Tristan Stubbs, who also looked strong at the crease.
As the session approached lunch, de Zorzi was on 49 runs, and Stubbs had contributed 23 runs off 42 balls. South Africa is expected to have a good Day 1 with their strong batting display.
