During the second session of the pink ball Test between India and Australia, Rishabh Pant was struck on his back by Mitchell Starc’s sharp direct throw. While Pant brushed off the incident with a smile, the blow shook him as he fell to Pat Cummins on the very next ball of the over.

The second Test between India and Australia began in Adelaide, with the former opting to bat first. Followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s golden duck, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill had a 69-run partnership. However, just before lunch, 3 wickets fell in quick succession, leaving India 81/4.

Meanwhile, in the second session, the Australian pace attack extended their dominance. Scott Boland sent back captain Rohit Sharma on just 3 (23). The pressure and responsibility fell on Rishabh Pant’s shoulders as he weathered Starc and Boland’s fiery spells.

In the 33rd over, Nitish Reddy punched a 140.2kph delivery from Pat Cummins to mid-on and called for a quick single. However, Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, was busy ball-watching and reacted late. Nitish was already halfway when Pant took off from the non-striker end. Mitchell Starc picked up the ball and made a sharp, direct hit that not only missed the stumps but hit Pant instead.

Rishabh Pant looked shaken but brushed off the incident with a smile. Mitchell Starc also apologised. However, the blow perhaps shook Pant as he nicked to Marnus Labuschagne on the very next ball. Cummins threw a bouncer at 143.5kph, leaving Pant uncomfortable. He awkwardly tried to defend, but an edge from the shoulder of the bat went to Labuschagne at wide gully, marking the end of Pant’s 21 off 35 balls resistance.

Mitchell Starc breaths fire in the pink ball Test

Mitchell Starc was destined to achieve success on Day 1 of the pink ball Test against India when he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal on the very first ball. With significant lateral movement, the fast bowler continued to produce breakthroughs. By knocking out Harshit Rana’s stumps, Starc registered a fifer and bowled out India with Nitish Reddy’s final wicket. India managed to score 180 runs in the first innings, and the hosts are currently at the top.
