India captain Rohit Sharma was forced to return to the pavilion for a low score in the currently underway Pink-Ball Test against Australia in Adelaide's iconic Adelaide Oval. Rohit departed after scoring just three runs as Scott Boland grabbed his second wicket of the innings.
The 37-year-old, who missed the first Test at Perth due to the birth of his son, Ahaan, came out to bat at No.6 after giving up his opening spot to KL Rahul. While KL Rahul showed great composure at the top, Rohit failed to fire his bat.
Returning to the spot after 2172 days, the skipper looked a little rusty. Speaking statistically, Rohit has a much better average while batting at No.6 than as an opener. From 25 innings, he has amassed 1037 runs at a brilliant average of 54.58. He has also smashed three hundred and six fifties.
Rohit Falls Prey To Boland
In the 26th over, Boland bowled a good-length delivery outside off. The ball nipped back sharply, and Rohit stayed rooted in his crease and looked to defend it well before his pads. However, the ball passed the inside edge and struck him on the front pad. The umpire wasted no moment raising his finger as Boland and the Aussies celebrated in excitement.
Before walking back, Rohit chatted with Rishabh Pant about the review but decided not to use it. Boland got the better of Rohit who has been susceptible to this kind of in-swinger deliveries.
Earlier in the game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for a golden duck. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill stabilised the ship with a 69-run partnership, until KL was dismissed thus beginning the collapse of the Indian batting line-up.
Virat Kohli also departed for a low score of 7 runs after which Gill was dismissed by Scott Boland. Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma played together for a little while after tea however, after skipper's dismissal, Nitish Kumar Reddy joined him at the crease.
At the time of writing, India are at 109/6 after 32.5, having just lost Rishabh Pant.
