Smriti Mandhana had a dream run in 2024 before the T20 World Cup, but since the start of the World Cup, Mandhana has looked a pale shadow of herself and looks woefully out of touch across formats.
The trend continued in the ongoing ODI series against the World Champions, New Zealand as well. In the first ODI, she was dismissed for a 7-ball 5, and her woeful run of fom continued in the second ODI, where she couldn't even open her account and was knocked over for duck.
New Zealand bowlers had the upper hand against the India opener and Lee Tahuhu seized her opportunity to dent a huge blow to the Indian side.
She bowled a fuller length ball outside the off and Mandhana failed to clear the in-field as she plays it straight to the fielder at point who grabbed the catch in her second attempt.
The opener looked disappointed as she missed out on an opportunity to score big and steer her side to a victory.
New Zealand post a commanding 259
Batting first, the White Ferns side posted a commanding 259 runs on the board. Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer stitched a crucial 87-run stand for the opening wicket, as the wicket floodgates opened. Soon, the New Zealand side lost 4 wickets as India came roaring back in the contest.
However, Maddy Green and Sophie Devine added 82 runs for the fifth wicket and made sure that the visitors posted a healthy total to challenge the home side. In reply, India have already lost 3 wickets and are struggling to score runs.
