Fans witnessed an extraordinary spectacle as Smriti Mandhana lit up Trent Bridge in the exciting opening game of The Hundred 2023 Women's competition between Southern Brave and Trent Rockets.

Smriti Mandhana's return to form steals the show

In what was a visual delight, Mandhana's classy batting became the talking point, turning the Brave's innings into a display of her sheer brilliance.

An equally underwhelming stint followed a dismal performance in the T20 World Cup in WPL 2023, and her struggles during India's tour of Bangladesh were well-documented.

Questions were raised, doubts were cast, but Mandhana's response was resounding. Coming to bat, she looked not just determined but destined to revive her magic. Playing an innings of 55 runs off just 36 balls, she smashed six elegant boundaries and two sixes, bringing up the first fifty of this year's tournament.

It was a batting masterclass that reminded everyone of the prodigious talent that had seemingly been lost. With finesse and authority, she controlled the innings, leaving everyone in awe before being dismissed by Bryony Smith.

Mandhana's performance was instrumental in setting a strong foundation for her team. Her partnership with Danielle Wyatt, along with contributions from Baia Bouchier (31) and Chloe Tryon (23), helped the Brave post a competitive total of 157/6 in their 100 balls. Smith emerged as the Rockets' top bowler with figures of 2/34 in 20 balls.

In response, Trent Rockets Women were quickly reduced to 21/3, finding themselves in a dismal position. The focus now shifts to Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat-Sciver Brunt to salvage their innings, but Mandhana's exceptional play has put the Brave firmly in the driver's seat.
