[Watch] Rajat Patidar's Poor Run Continues; Gets Out LBW Off Shoaib Bashir's Off-Break

Rajat Patidar's string of low scores continued on Day 2 of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi as the struggling newcomer suffered yet another failure in his maiden Test series for India.

The Madhya Pradesh right-hander, who had failed to provide a befitting account of his talent and promise in the previous two Tests in Vizag and Rajkot, continued to stumble even in the first-innings of the Ranchi Test versus the tourists.

Walking in after the loss of a well-set Shubman Gill, India required their inexperienced No.4 to stitch a partnership with in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Patidar could only muster a score of 17 after an unconvincing stint that lasted 42 deliveries.

Rajat Patidar's Struggles Continue For India

It was Patidar's fifth consecutive failure since making his debut on the back of a prolific run at the domestic first-class level for MP and India A. Facing off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, the right-hander was done in by low bounce and bit of skid that the tall bowler generated and was out LBW after rocking onto the backfoot.

The delivery hit the crack and hit Patidar's front pad in front in the middle and leg-stump line. But given that he was on the backfoot, the umpire felt the ball didn't really have much distance to cover from the point of contact to the stumps and raised his finger.

Patidar reviewed the decision and the impact came out 'Umpire's Call' on the DRS, vindicating the on-field call and forcing the Indian batter to keep walking back to the shed.

The Indian No.4 would've been livid with himself as he further attracted criticism and virtual knife on his spot in the side with multiple senior players due to comeback and many aspiring batters waiting in the pipeline.

At the time of publishing, Tea has been taken in Ranchi on Day 2 with England on the box seating as India are under the pump with just 131/4 on the board.
