Mumbai Indians' debutant Naman Dhir looked impressive with the bat during his side's IPL 2024 opener against Gujarat Titans. Coming at number three, Dhir amazed the spectators through his fireworks before Azmatuallah Omarzai trapped him plumb in front of the stumps.

Chasing 169, Mumbai Indians had a disastrous start to their innings, losing opener Ishan Kishan in the very first over.

However, Naman Dhir, promoted to number three, surprised the Titans with his stroke play, hammering Omarzai for three fours and a six. But fortunately for the hosts, the Afghan sensation accomplished his revenge, dismissing Dhir on the final ball of his over.

It was a good length ball from Omarzai, which stayed a tad low, beating Dhir on his pull shot and hitting him on his back pad. As soon as the right-hander was struck, the Titans' players instantly appealed for an LBW.

Vineet Kulkarni, the on-field umpire for the game, decided it in MI's favour. However, Shubman Gill, GT's newly appointed skipper, went upstairs, hoping for a change in decision.

The TV umpire, upon seeing the replay from multiple angles, declared Dhir out, with the HawkEye predicting three reds.

Impact substitute Dewald Brevis joined ex-captain Rohit Sharma in the middle after Dhir's departure. As of writing, MI were well-placed at 52 for two in six overs, with Rohit and Brevis batting on 24* and 6*, respectively.
