India spinner Kuldeep Yadav drew first blood as he spun his web to claim the first wicket for his team in the fifth and final Test of the series at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala.

On a day where the coin toss favoured England, leading them to bat under the bright skies, their openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, started on a promising note.

The duo set the stage with a robust partnership of 64 runs, laying a solid foundation on a pitch that seemed to whisper secrets to the pacers early on.

However, India got its first breakthrough when captain Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Kuldeep. With expectations riding high, Yadav did not disappoint as he struck gold in his very first over, derailing the Duckett express that seemed set for a long journey.

Ben Duckett, who had been anchoring his innings with patience, found himself at a crossroads after facing a barrage of dot balls. His mounting frustration became his undoing as he decided to whack Kuldeep's googly on the leg-side.

Duckett went for a mighty heave, only to send the ball spiralling into the air of a thick top edge. It was a shot that screamed desperation, which soon turned into a spectacle of despair. As the ball hung in the air, Shubman Gill, positioned in the cover, sprinted and executed a perfectly timed dive, plucking the ball from the air to send Duckett back to the pavilion for 27 runs off 58 balls.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing this article, England’s scoreboard read 100/1 after 25.1 overs. With Crawley still at the crease, holding fort at 61*, and Ollie Pope just beginning to find his feet with an unbeaten 11, England's resolve looks clear.

They will aim to weave a new partnership, to rebuild and retaliate, but the Indian bowlers, with Kuldeep leading the charge, have already drawn first blood, setting the stage for an exciting Test.
