Shubman Gill, who opened the batting for India, departed after scoring just 6 runs off 14 balls. His dismissal occurred in the 5th over of India's innings when Asitha Fernando delivered a crucial blow.

It was a good-length delivery aimed at the stumps, and Gill, attempting to be aggressive, shimmied down the wicket to play a big shot. However, he misjudged the line and length, losing his shape and completely missing the ball, which went on to hit the leg stump.

Asitha Fernando was visibly elated, celebrating the prized wicket of Gill. This early breakthrough gave Sri Lanka a much-needed advantage as they aimed to defend their total.
