Shubman Gill pounded his fourth Test century, and his second of the ongoing series, through the course of his batting masterclass against England at Dharamshala.

Making his way to the crease at the brink of stumps on Day 1, the youngster shared 171 runs for the second wicket with captain Rohit Sharma, and pumped out 110 of those runs off his own blade as Team India mounted a huge first innings lead over the visitors.

However, Gill failed to capitalize on his regal innings as he was knocked over by seasoned English pacer and ageing warrior James Anderson shortly after the second lunch break.

England’s 41-year-old fast bowler and milestone man James Anderson hit the top of Shubman Gill’s off-stump with an absolute jaffa shortly after the lunch break on Day 2.

Tasked to bowl the first over of the post-lunch session, the cricketer made instant impact in his return spell by deceiving Gill with beautiful seam movement.

Remarkably, the timely breakthrough also took James Anderson’s illustrious Test tally to 699 wickets.

Earlier in the match, England folded up for 218 in their first innings as their entire batting line-up capitulated in front of raging Indian spinners, particularly Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin on Day 1.

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma shared 104 runs at the top of the order before the latter listed a splendid ton during his monumental partnership with fellow-centurion Shubman Gill.

By the time of Gill’s dismissal, Team India had reached 279-3 to find themselves over 50 runs ahead of England’s first innings total.
