The ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 clash between India A and India D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur saw some intense cricketing action. Among the key moments was Tilak Varma’s brief but eventful stint at the crease.

The 21-year-old looking to refine his skills beyond just batting, entered the match with hopes of making a significant impact. Unfortunately for the young talent, his ambitions were cut short by a brilliant catch from Shreyas Iyer.

In the 18th over of India A’s first innings, Tilak Varma was facing Saransh Jain, who had the ball in hand and a plan in mind. The fourth delivery of the over, a well-executed good-length ball just outside off stump, forced Tilak into an uncomfortable position.

He rocked back into his crease, attempting to defend the delivery, but the ball had other ideas. A subtle spin caused the ball to graze Tilak's bat, and it took the outside edge. The ball flew low toward the slip cordon.

Shreyas Iyer’s Spectacular Catch

Standing alert at slip was India D’s captain, Shreyas Iyer. In a flash, he dived low to his right, taking a stunning catch that dismissed Varma, who had managed only 10 runs.

Iyer’s sharp reflexes and safe hands made all the difference, sending the Hyderabad batter back to the pavilion far earlier than he would have liked.

India A's Struggle Continues Vs India D

Earlier in the match, India A struggled after losing their captain, Mayank Agarwal, cheaply to Vidhwath Kaverappa’s bowling. Pratham Singh, brought in to replace Shubman Gill, couldn’t make an impression either, falling to a sharp bouncer.

Tilak Varma’s dismissal came soon after Riyan Parag had departed for 37 runs, succumbing to Arshdeep Singh’s fiery pace and Devdutt Padikkal’s agile catch. At the time of writing, India A were 109 for five in the high-voltage match.
