Shubman Gill, the star Indian opener has been replaced by Pratham Singh in the India A XI in their second game of Duleep Trophy 2024 against India D.

Gill along with many others have been withdrawn from the tournament after their selection in the Indian squad for the Bangladesh Test series and that has provided the opportunity to Pratham Singh, a left-handed opening batter who plays for Railways in domestic cricket.

He was born on the 31st of August 1992 in Delhi but lives in Uttar Pradesh and made his List A and first-class debut for Railways in 2017. Pratham Singh was also bought by Gujarat Lions for the 2017 edition of IPL and was also part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in IPL 2022.

He was the leading run-scorer for Railways in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare tournament, but has been in brilliant form lately in red-ball cricket which has ensured his inclusion in Duleep Trophy. He scored two hundreds in the Buchi Babu tournament recently, and has century in his last Ranji game as well.

The left-handed batter is currently employed as a technician in Railways and also played for Jharkhand at the under-22 level. He is also a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication and despite an average of 35.63 in first-class cricket, his recent consistent run has provided him with a chance to play with some of the biggest names in Indian cricket in Duleep Trophy.

The batter could not make the most of his opportunity in the first innings though as he could score only 7 on the opening day of the second round of Duleep Trophy where India A is facing India D.
