Shreyas Iyer's tactical move to use Vidhwath Kaverappa with the new ball worked wonders, as the promising pacer got Mayank Agarwal's prized scalp in India D's ongoing Duleep Trophy clash against India A at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. In Shubman Gill's absence, stand-in skipper Mayank Agarwal was expected to play a vital role with the bat for India A. However, the experienced batter sustained his rough patch, with Kaverappa dismissing him for seven runs.

Shreyas Iyer's Tactical Ploy Rattles Mayank Agarwal

The incident occurred during the sixth over of India A's first innings after India D skipper Shreyas Iyer invited them to bat on Anantapur's seam-friendly deck. After Harshit Rana bowled a fantastic first over, Iyer handed the new ball to Kaverappa ahead of ace speedster Arshdeep Singh.

Although his decision raised a few eyebrows, Kaverappa eventually lived up to his captain's expectations, drawing the first blood for India D with a magnificent delivery. After starting his third over with a dot ball, the talented right-arm pacer bowled a good length ball that shaped slightly away from Agarwal after pitching just outside the off stump.

Kaverappa's immaculate line forced Agarwal to play a false shot, as the ball went straight into the safe hands of Sanju Samson after a thin outside edge off his bat. Thus, Agarwal, who endured failures in the last game against India B, let his team in the competition yet again.

Tilak Varma And Pratham Singh Join Hands To Steady The Ship For India A

Hyderabad's stylish left-handed batter Tilak Varma joined Pratham Singh in the middle following Agarwal's cheap dismissal. Considering India A lost the tournament opener, this match is significant for them to stay alive in the tournament.
