Promising batting all-rounder Riyan Parag showcased his power-hitting abilities on the opening day of the ongoing Duleep Trophy affair between India A and India D. Coming at four, Parag struck a few glorious boundaries to up the ante for India A following a mini top-order collapse.

After India D captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl, India A had a disastrous start to their innings, losing skipper Mayank Agarwal cheaply off Vidhwath Kaverappa's bowling. Meanwhile, Pratham Singh, who replaced Shubman Gill in India A's playing XI, failed to make a mark, falling prey to Kaverappa's sharp bouncer.

However, India A started bossing the game soon after Riyan Parag joined hands with Tilak Varma in the middle. The Assam-born batter stunned India D with his flamboyant stroke play, as his quick-fire knock scripted the A team's fightback in the all-important encounter.

The courageous batter took his chances to keep India D at bay on Anantapur's seam-friendly surface. Although he hit several gorgeous stokes, his nonchalant six off Kaverappa grabbed the limelight.

The incident occurred during the 12th over of India A's innings when Riyan Parag had just arrived at the crease following Pratham Singh's departure. After conceding a solitary run off his first two balls, Kaverappa erred in his length, bowling an over-pitched delivery to Parag.

The aggressive batter grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he dispatched the ball disdainfully over the long-off fence for a six. His magnificent shot reminded fans of Rohit Sharma, who generally plays such effortless strokes in international cricket.

However, Parag failed to convert his start to a significant score, being dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in the 17th over. Tilak Varma also had a disappointing outing, with Shreyas Iyer's sharp catch leading to his dismissal. As of writing, India A were tottering at 69 for four, with Shashwat Rawat batting alongside Kumar Kushagra in the middle.
