The much-awaited Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final between Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh is underway at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer-led Mumbai won the toss and asked MP to bat first.

Mumbai are eying their 2nd SMAT Trophy, and winning the toss was the first step towards that direction. Meanwhile, skipper Shreyas Iyer hogged the headlines during the coin flip as he tossed it in an unusual manner that has now left the internet into splits.

Iyer went for a no-look toss, and even the match referee was stunned by that unusual style for a coin flip.  Even presenter Rohan Gavaskar was stunned by the incident and saw the lighter side of it.

"The coin has gone some distance, just like Shreyas' sixes," remarked Rohan Gavaskar. Watch the incident here.

Mumbai's Journey To Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024

Shreyas Iyer is having a golden year as a captain in T20 cricket. He firstly led Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title in May 2024. Owing to his IPL success, the MCA decided to give captain's armband to Shreyas Iyer instead of Ajinkya Rahane for SMAT. Iyer repaid the faith shown in him by leading Mumbai to the finals.

Mumbai were placed in group E. They finished second on the group with five wins in six matches. The Iyer-led side went on to beat Vidarbha by six-wickets in the quarter-finals. Mumbai then faced a tough Baroda in the semis, but had a easy outing against the Krunal Pandya-led side.

Mumbai registered a solid six-wickets win, courtesy of Ajinkya Rahane's 98-runs knock to make it to the finals.
