After stumps on day 2, Australia are in the driver's seat with 405/7 on the board. Despite losing three early wickets, the hosts were on the course of registering 500+ runs, but Jasprit Bumrah's heroics derailed their plans.
Australia were cruising 316/3 on the board, but Bumrah returned to the spell with a new ball and took three quick wickets to cripple Australia and also complete his five-wicket haul. The right-arm seamer has been India's best bowler in the ongoing BGT, as he has taken 17 wickets.
Isa Guha Lands In Controversy With 'Primate' Remark
Bumrah was India's best man on day 2. The internet and cricket pundits were full of praising the MI star bowler. However, Fox commentator Isa Guha has landed herself in hot waters following a racial remark about Bumrah that has not gone well with the fans.
Speaking for Fox Cricket about the opening session of Day 2, Guha, in an attempt to attract laughs, referred to Bumrah as a 'Primate'. Notably, Brett Lee was impressed with Bumrah's spell and had labelled him as India's MVP - Most Valuable Player.
“Bumrah, today: five overs, 2-4. So, that’s the tone, and that’s what you want from the ex-skipper,” Lee said.
However, Guha hogged headlines as she replaced the player word with 'Primate' and referred to the move of a similar name. She added: “Well, he’s the MVP, isn’t he? Most valuable primate, Jasprit Bumrah.
Monkeygate-like Incident Feared
The incident has reminded fans of the infamous 2008 'MonkeyGate' incident when Harbhajan Singh was accused by late Andrew Symonds of calling him a monkey. The matter grew and the series was touted to be called off before Harbhajan was slapped with a three-match ban.
Thus, Isa Guha also fears being cancelled by Fox over her remarks for Bumrah if the matter grows further. At the moment, Guha is yet to issue an apology or a statement regarding the matter.
