The 14th edition of Big Bash League is underway at the Optus Stadium in Perth as Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars have locked horns against each other in the curtain raiser game. The Stars won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision backfired as they got off to the worst possible start.
The Stars lost two wickets for just three runs on the board. Skipper Marcus Stoinis rose to the occasion and played a brilliant 37-run knock to pull Melbourne out of the trouble. Stoinis' knock featured three fours and a solitary six.
Stoinis' Bat Hogs The Internet
Stoinis also hogged the headlines for non-cricketing reasons, as his bat was split into two after one of the pacy deliveries by Jhye Richardson. The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the 12th over when the Hulk tried to direct a yorker towards the short third man, but saw the bat being broken completely.
Stoinis Throw His Wicket Away After Bat Change
A team member rushed to the spot with a big set of bats, but it didn't work for Stoinis as he threw his wicket away on the very next delivery. Marcus fell short of the crease in an attempt to take a quick single, but a brilliant throw ended his blistering knock.
Frustrated by his decision, he also threw his newly replaced bat in the air. At the time of writing this article, Melbourne Stars are 119/5 after 16 overs.
