G Kamalini, the 16-year old teenage sensation who recently fetched a record INR 1.6 crore at the WPL 2025 auction, played a pivotal role in India's dominant nine-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening match of the U-19 Asia Cup.

Kamalini, known for her aggressive batting style and wicket-keeping abilities, showcased her maturity and class beyond her years. Her powerful knocks and ability to anchor the chase further solidified her reputation as why Mumbai Indians were bidding so high for her.

Kamailini's Calibre: MI Buy Floors Pakistan Women

The Indian women's U19 team made a strong start to their Asia Cup campaign, defeating Pakistan by nine wickets as G Kamalini spoke with the bat and sent the balls sailing in quick successions.

Choosing to bat first, Pakistan struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Sonam delivered a match-winning performance, claiming 4 wickets for just 6 runs, while Shabnam and Parunika also chipped in with crucial wickets. Pakistan could only manage 67/7 in their 20 overs.

In reply, India chased down the target with ease, thanks to an unbeaten 68-run partnership between G Kamalini (44) and Sanika (19). Kamalini was phenomenal with the bat as she hammered 3 sixes and four boundaries in her innings that featured impressive cuts, audacious step-out slogs and picture perfect drives.

The match though was swept away by Kamalini, was dominated by Sonam Yadav, the orthodox spinner who took a four-fer to crumble Pakistan's inning. Yadav picked 4 wickets by only conceding 6 runs in the match.

Kamalini's Impressive Rise

Kamalini, the sensational prodigy from Tamil Nadu kicked off her journey at the Super Kings Academy in Chennai, where her fearless talent shone brightly. Dominating the U-19 circuit, she piled up 311 runs and dazzled with a thrilling 79 in the Tri-Series final against South Africa A. 

Now, after her bid at WPL, Kamalini will be expected to perform at WPL 2025 as she has already raised the bar high. Anyhow, joining the star-studded Mumbai Indians with experienced veterans like Harmanpreet Kaur can also be the perfect launchpad for her to elevate her game.
