The 8th match of the Champions One-Day Cup turned out to be a high-scoring encounter, with Lions winning the game by 35 runs after scoring 367 while batting first. Markhors, in reply, also batted well and scored 332, and Shaheen Afridi, the skipper of Lions, was hammered for 86 in his ten overs. The pounding frustrated the Lions captain, and it came out against Shahnawaz Dahani at the fag end of the match.

On the fifth ball of the 48th over, Shaheen Afridi came 'round the wicket and bowled a brilliant bouncer angling into Shahnawaz Dahani, and the batter just about managed to get out of the line. Shaheen did not stop there but came up with some animated remarks for Dahani, using body language that clearly showed his frustration. Dahani, in reply, did not utter a word and just smiled as Shaheen Afridi walked back to his mark, trying to explain something to one of his fielders

Lions Register Their First Win Of The Tournament

The left-arm pacer, though, could not get rid of the tailender Shahnawaz Dahani, who is mainly known for his bowling as he stayed unbeaten on three. However, Shaheen took two wickets in the game, one of which was an important one of Agha Salman who played a brilliant knock of 69 off 39 balls. Earlier in the game, Irfan Khan Niazi scored a stunning 56-ball century for the Lions, while the likes of Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq and Khushdil Shah also scored the fifties to make sure that the Lions got to a total that proved too hot to handle for Rizwan's Markhors.

It was the first victory for Shaheen Afridi and company in the tournament after losing their initial two games. For Markhors, it was the first loss in their four games so far, and they have already booked their place in Qualifier 1, which is scheduled to be played on September 24.
