Shubman Gill departed for a eight-ball duck in the first innings of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh at the Chepauk and had to face a lot of criticism from the fans. However, the Indian number 3 has stepped up in the second innings and has now reached fifty with back-to-back sixes against Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

The sixes came in the 30th over of India's second innings in the first hour of the morning session of Day 3. Gill started the day on 33 and played with great calmness, but did not hit a boundary till the over he decided to use the angle from the right-hander to tonk some sixes. Gill used his feet to great effect in both the sixes and as Mehidy tossed up deliveries, the right-hander danced down the track to blast first six over wide long on and the second one was hit flat over deep mid-wicket.

Gill Shows Temperament After Early Wickets

In the process, the talented batter reached his seventh Test fifty, and looks well-poised to get to a ton with Rishabh Pant alongside him. On Day 2, Gill walked out to bat with India in a spot of bother after another failure for Rohit Sharma and played some glorious shots despite wickets falling at the other end.

India In Pole Position

Talking about the match, India are in a pole position and have a lead close to 350 with seven wickets in hand. In the first innings, India scored 376 courtesy a brilliant century by Ashwin and 86 from Jadeja. In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for just 149 with Jasprit Bumrah showing his class again with a four-wicket haul. India would be looking to get their lead around 450, and things look difficult for Bangladesh with enough help for pacers and spinners on a red-soil pitch at the Chepauk.
