Islamabad United teammates Alex Hales and Shadab Khan were down with a scary collision following a drop catch mishap at the boundary ropes during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 face-off with Karachi Kings on Wednesday (February 28).

The explosive England opener and the Pakistan spin allrounder were hurt after jamming into each other in a joint catching attempt near the ropes during the critical league stage encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi.

The incident happened on the very last ball of the Kings' first-innings batting effort when their great powerhitter Kieron Pollard smashed a full toss from pacer Hunain Shah to the straight boundary for an attempted maximum.

Hales, Shadab Collide After Poor Communication

Placed nearby, Hales and Shadab both ran in to try and secure the catching opportunity but ended up jamming into each other and fell badly in excruciating pain. Alex Hales ran in from long-off and his Kings skipper from long-on but neither player called 'mine' to ensure there was clarity as to who would eventually go for the catch.

It was a school-boy error on the part of both the experienced cricketers and they paid for the woeful miscommunication with a physically threatening collision. To further rub salt into their wounds, the ball ricocheted off their bodies and allowed Pollard to sprint back for four runs.

Dealing with pain, it took Shadab and Hales time to get up on their feet. The Islamabad franchise's medical staff immediately attended the two cricketers and made sure they were ripe for the rest of the game where the visitors dominated the home side and won comprehensively with seven wickets intact.

The United consolidated the fourth spot in the PSL 2024 standings with their second win of the tournament after five league games.
