Virat Kohli dished out a majestic 49-ball 77 against Punjab Kings at Bengaluru on March 25, in match number six of the IPL 2024 season.

Having made his return to competitive cricket this week after a gap of two months, Kohli showed no comeback jitters as his 100th T20 fifty-plus score set up a comprehensive four-wicket victory for the RCB.

During the course of his knock, the RCB opener was also engaged in a brief-yet-hilarious banter with Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar. The incident occurred during the seventh over of the RCB innings, at a time when Virat Kohli was batting at 35* from 21 balls.

Virat Kohli’s banter with Harpreet caught on stump mic

Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar was tasked to bowl right after the opening powerplay of the RCB innings, when a well-set Virat Kohli and newly-arrived Rajat Patidar were batting at the crease.

Kohli cut Brar off his back foot towards cover for a single in the first ball of the over. As the RCB opener was making his way towards the non-striker’s end, he engaged in a brief-yet-hilarious banter with the Punjab Kings spinner, saying: “Senti kyu ho raha hai, kya ho gaya?” (Why are you being sentimental, what happened?)

While the exact reason behind Virat Kohli’s bizarre questioning is yet to be determined, the moment seems to have attracted much amusement among his fans on social media.

Later in the same game, Virat Kohli was also involved in an ‘abusive banter’ with Harpreet Brar, shortly before the latter cleaned up Glenn Maxwell in RCB’s run-chase.

Regardless, both Kohli and Brar finished among the top-performers of the game, with the former sealing the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his splendid knock while the Punjab Kings spinner claiming figures of 2-13 off his four overs.
