Swashbuckling Indian batter Sanju Samson showcased his incredible power-hitting skills in India D's ongoing Duleep Trophy match against India A in Anantapur. Coming at number six, Samson struck several glorious shots to up the ante for his side following the dismissal of skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Chasing a massive target of 488 runs, India D had a shaky start to their innings, losing reliable opener Atharva Taide for a duck. Although Yash Dubey and Ricky Bhui helped them recover with a fighting second-wicket stand, the former's dismissal in the 30th over brought India A right back into the contest.

While Devdutt Padikkal was castled by Shams Mulani, Shreyas Iyer missed out on a well-deserved half-century, becoming the left-arm spinner's second victim. Samson joined hands with Ricky Bhui after Iyer's departure.

The experienced Kerala batter came out with all guns blazing, adopting a counterattacking approach to tackle the India A bowlers on a challenging pitch. He used his feet beautifully to charge down the ground and open his account with a magnificent boundary off Tanush Kotian.

The explosive keeper-batter, who replaced Ishan Kishan in the tournament, followed it up with a glorious six over extra cover off Shams Mulani before hitting Kotian for another six just before the lunch break. His onslaught brought smiles back to the India D camp in a time when everything seemed over for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. It also reminded Indian fans of Rohit Sharma, who generally dominates spin bowling by charging down the track.

India D In A Spot Of Bother Vs India A In Duleep Trophy

Despite Samson's fireworks, the target seems out of India D's reach, as they are placed at 190 for four at lunch on day four. Meanwhile, India A will fancy their chances, with their spinners making the ball talk on a turning track. As they lost the first game against India B, this match holds paramount importance for the A side to stay alive in the tournament.
