Young left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal endured a rare batting failure, as Shams Mulani dismissed him cheaply in the ongoing Duleep Trophy encounter between India A and India D in Anantapur. Coming at four, Padikkal could manage a solitary run before Mulani outfoxed him with a dream delivery.

The incident occurred during the 32nd over of India D's second innings when Padikkal had just joined Ricky Bhui in the middle following Yash Dubey's dismissal. India A skipper Mayank Agarwal's decision to persist with Mulani for another over paid rich dividends for his side, as the left-arm spinner got rid of Padikkal with a magnificent delivery.

The experienced Mumbai cricketer initially built pressure on the India D batters, conceding only two singles off his first five deliveries. As he kept things tight, Padikkal was forced to play a false shot, throwing away his wicket at a crucial juncture of the game.

From around the wicket, Mulani bowled a full-length ball around the off stump, luring Padikkal for a drive. As the southpaw went for it, the ball turned sharply to sneak through the gap between his bat and pad and shatter the timber.

Notably, Padikkal's wicket held significant importance for India A, as the Karnataka batter was in sublime form. His dismissal brought skipper Shreyas Iyer into the middle.

Iyer Departs As Samson Joins Bhui To Steady The Ship For India D

India D skipper Shreyas Iyer once again failed to play an impactful knock, as Shams Mulani bowled him between his legs in the 47th over. Iyer struck 41 runs off 55 deliveries, but a slight error in judgement led to his disastrous dismissal. After his departure, Sanju Samson joied Ricky Bhui in the middle to steady the ship for the D team. As of writing, they were 165 for four in 49.1 overs, with Bhui and Samson batting on 77* and 4*, respectively.
