Australia’s rising star Sam Konstas showed his power-hitting skills during the 33rd match of the Big Bash League 2024-25 between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium on January 13.

Opening the innings for Sydney Thunder alongside veteran David Warner, Konstas made an impact early. In the third over, he took on Perth’s young pacer, Mahli Beardman. On the fifth ball of the over, Beardman bowled a slower delivery outside off stump at 124.4 km/h. But Konstas was ready — he charged down the pitch and smashed it over long-on for a massive six. The shot sent a buzz through the crowd, leaving Beardman looking more like a spinner than a fast bowler.

What made the moment even more special? Both players are just 19 years old, making it a thrilling young-gun battle.

David Warner Departs Cheaply Against Scorchers

However, Thunder didn’t have it all their way. Their skipper, David Warner, fell cheaply in the next over. Lance Morris dismissed him for just 8 runs off 7 balls, leaving Thunder in a tricky spot.

At the time of writing, Sydney Thunder are 64 for 4 after 9 overs, with Konstas inching closer to his half-century and George Garton at the other end, hoping to rebuild the innings.
