In the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) clash between the Sydney Thunder and the Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Showground Stadium, Sydney, the Thunder found themselves in deep trouble after a horrendous start. Winning the toss, Perth Scorchers opted to bowl, and their decision paid off handsomely, with the Thunder reeling at 64/4 midway through their innings.

David Warner Departs Cheaply

It was the third over of the innings, and Lance Morris, bowled over the wicket and unleashed a thunderous delivery. The ball was short, and angled into the middle and off-stump, and extracted sharp seam movement and extra bounce off the track.

David Warner attempted to stay tall, was caught off guard by the bounce. Failing to control the shot, he got a leading edge that ballooned towards cover, where Fanning made no mistake, grabbing the catch comfortably.

Warner's early dismissal dealt a massive blow to the Thunder, as the experienced opener was expected to anchor the innings on a challenging surface.

The SYT Top-Order Flaters Under Pressure

The Thunder's woes didn’t end there, as their top-order batters failed to stabilise the innings. Matthew Gilkes and Sam Billings, also departed cheaply leaving Thunder’s batting lineup in trouble. The Scorchers bowling unit maintained consistent pressure and exploited the conditions to perfection.

As the Thunder face an uphill battle to recover, the early loss of Warner has undoubtedly tilted the momentum in favor of the Scorchers. At the time of writing, Sydney Thunder are in precarious position and have made 75 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. Sam Konstas and Chris Green are batting at the moment and trying to rebuild the innings for Sydney Thunder
