The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially named Devajit Saikia as the new honorary secretary after Jay Shah left the position vacant to become ICC Chairman. Moreover, the Indian board also announced Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the new honorary treasurer.
As per the board’s latest social media update, the two will be assuming their respective roles with immediate effect.
BCCI President welcomes new secretary, treasurer
Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were unanimously elected as the new honorary secretary and the honorary treasurer respectively of the BCCI. On January 13, i.e., a day after the General Meeting at the BCCI headquarters, the board officially recognized the two and confirmed that they will be assuming their respective roles from immediate effect.
BCCI President and former Indian cricketer Roger Binny welcomed Saikia and Bhatia by extending his congratulations. Binny also expressed his confidence over the two new recruits owing to their “proven administrative acumen”.
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla also claimed that the appointments of Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia marks an “exciting” new chapter for the board’s administrative framework.
It is worth noting that Devajit Saikia, a former Indian domestic cricketer, replaced Jay Shah as BCCI secretary after the latter assumed his duties as ICC Chairman. He played four first-class matches during his playing days as a wicketkeeper-batter between the years 1990 and 1991 for the Assam cricket team.
On the other hand, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia replaced Ashish Shelar as the new treasurer of the board.
