On Saturday, India announced their squad for the upcoming T20I series against England. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India will face the Englishmen in five T20Is before taking them on in three ODIs. While most of the Champions Trophy-bound players have been rested for the T20I leg, India still have several outright match-winners who can give the tourists a run for their money.

However, talking about India's potential first-choice playing XI for the five-match T20I series, there are several players who might miss out on selection due to several reasons, as mentioned below.

3. Washington Sundar

  • India's prominent all-rounder Washington Sundar recently revitalised his Test career by performing admirably in the New Zealand home series. However, the right-arm off-spinner might not find a place in India's first-choice XI, with Axar Patel returning to the team.
  • Axar has been named the vice-captain of the team and will form the leadership group with captain Suryakumar Yadav. Also, considering India have preferred Varun Chakravarthy as their frontline spinner in T20Is, Sundar is unlikely to feature, at least, in the first few T20Is against England.

2. Ravi Bishnoi

  • Promising spin bowler Ravi Bishnoi has been impressive in his brief international career, scalping 56 wickets in 37 matches at a strike rate of 15.39.
  • The young spinner might not be a part of India's first-choice playing XI against England, with the team management likely to prefer Axar and Varun Chakravarthy as the two spinners.
  • India had Bishnoi in their playing XI on the South Africa tour. However, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami could replace him, as India won't likely pick a third spinner unless they play on an extremely spin-friendly track.

1. Harshit Rana

  • Harshit Rana is a talented fast bowler, who earned a T20I call-up following his exploits for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir backs the right-arm seamer, and he recently featured in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy despite lack of experience in First-Class cricket.
  • However, with Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami leading the pace battery and Hardik Pandya and Nitish Reddy supporting them with useful medium pace, Harshit might warm the bench in the first few T20Is against England.
