In a significant development, South Africa have unveiled their 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to take place next month in Pakistan and Dubai. The White-ball head coach Rob Walter announced the squad and also revealed Temba Bavuma as the ODI captain on Monday.

It is worth noting that the squad includes 10 players who represented South Africa in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, where the team had an impressive run, making it to the semi-finals.

Ngidi and Nortje Back in Action

Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is making his return to the national team after being sidelined due to a groin injury since October 2024. His comeback is expected to boost South Africa’s pace attack.

Another exciting return is that of star pacer Anrich Nortje. This will be Nortje’s first ODI appearance since September 2023, after recovering from a stress fracture in his back. He missed the 2023 World Cup and South Africa’s home matches due to the injury, making his return to 50-over cricket highly anticipated.

Tristan Stubbs Included In The Squad

The Champions Trophy will also see fresh talent in South Africa’s squad. Batters Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs, along with all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, are set to participate in their first senior ICC 50-over tournament.

These players have been rewarded for their consistent performances in domestic cricket, and fans will be eager to see how they perform on the international stage.
