Promising Indian fast bowler Akash Deep had a dream start to the second Test against Bangladesh, as he got the prized scalps of Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam. His twin strikes rattled the Tigers' top order, reducing them to 29 for two in 12.1 overs.

After dismissing Zakir for a 24-ball duck, courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal's sensational catch, Akash Deep trapped Shadman Islam plumb in front of the stumps for 24. His clinical new ball spell helped India get a solid start with the ball and put Bangladesh under the pump.

From around the wicket, Akash Deep bowled a good length delivery, which came back into Shadman after pitching around the off stump. As the southpaw tried to play a leg glance, he missed it completely, with the ball hitting him on his front pad.

Despite Akash Deep pleading, the on-field umpire declared Shadman not out, thinking it would go over the stumps. However, the fast bowler forced Indian captain Rohit Sharma to go upstairs and challenge the decision.

His instinctive call paid rich dividends for the hosts, as the TV umpire found three reds in the replay and asked his on-field colleague to overturn his call. As the HawkEye predicted that the ball would have hit the stumps, Rohit Sharma gave an animated shocking reaction, praising Akash Deep for his DRS masterstroke.

Shanto Joins Mominul To Steady The Ship For Bangladesh

After Shadman became Akash Deep's second victim, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto joined Mominul Haque to steady the ship for the visitors. Mominul has looked solid so far, while Najmul has struck six glorious boundaries to frustrate the hosts with his counterattack. At the time of writing, Bangladesh were 74 for two, with Mominul and Shanto batting on 17* and 28*, respectively.
