India and Bangladesh are playing against each other in the second of the Two match Test series at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, won the toss ahead of the game and opted to field first.

Why India decided to field first?

  • The pitch at Green Park Stadium had a bit of grass covering and hence it prompted Team India to field first.
  • It has been raining in Kanpur for the past two days and the conditions were overcast this morning. With the grass covering, the overcast conditions would have influenced the Indian management to think even more about fielding first.

How Bangladesh were pushed to the back foot by Akash Deep?

Even though India were not able to pick up wickets in the first few overs, the introduction of Akash Deep gradually changed the momentum towards them. The right-arm pacer bowled a fiery spell and picked up two wickets and had the visitors under pressure at 29/2. This is where Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper of the Bangladesh team walked out to bat.

How Najmul Hossain Shanto approached batting?

When Shanto walked in the Bangladesh batters were getting beaten consistently and the Indian bowlers were dominating the proceedings. At this stage, Shanto instead of defending and looking to survive tried to play his shots. He played his drives and cuts and also played the reverse sweep against the spinners to take the pressure off his team.
