India A and India B are playing against each other in the first match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The third day of the game started with India A stationed at 134/2 in reply to India B's 321.
While India B walked out for Day 3, Riyan Parag and KL Rahul started their innings from 27 to 23, respectively. The skipper of the India B, Abhimanyu Easwaran, brought Yash Dayal into the attack for the fourth over of the day.
Riyan Parag failed to convert his start
On the last ball of the over, Yash Dayal picked up the wicket of Riyan Parag, who was looking decent till then in the middle. It was a length delivery by Dayal at the leg stump line. Parag was looking to flick the delivery towards the fine leg region. However, he failed to connect properly and got a faint edge that Rishabh Pant took behind the stumps.
Notably, the Duleep Trophy is an audition for fringe players to claim a spot in the national team for the longer format. With a long Test season ahead, the Indian management will be keeping a keen eye on this tournament to bolster their bench strength.
Riyan Parag knocking at the doors of Indian team
Riyan Parag had a breakthrough season in IPL 2024. He was outstanding with the bat throughout the tournament, and the best part of the campaign was scoring runs under pressure. His performances in the game earned him a place in the Indian team for limited-overs.
At a critical juncture of his career, Parag is striving to make a case for himself in the longer format of the game. However, his failure to convert the start in the ongoing game is something he should work on quickly to fast-track his career in the national side in the purest format of the game.
