Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant once again failed to make any impact with the bat, this time falling for a low score against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 61 of the IPL 2025 season in Lucknow. Batting at number three and arriving to the crease following a 115-run opening stand between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, Pant ended up chipping one back to the bowler for just seven.

The bowler in contention, SRH’s Sri Lankan recruit Eshan Malinga, grabbed a sensational caught and bowled as the visiting franchise fought back with two quick wickets after enduring an early onslaught.

Athleticism on display from Eshan Malinga

Eshan Malinga, bowling his second over during the 12th over of the LSG innings, trapped home skipper Rishabh Pant with a cunning off-pace delivery towards the leg stump. Pant merely ended up chipping the ball back towards Malinga, who in turn jumped to his left to complete a sensational caught-and-bowled grab.

Eshan Malinga’s breakthrough was followed by the dismissal of well-set LSG opener Aiden Markram courtesy of Harshal Patel a while later as the LSG lost three quick wickets in the space of just five overs.

Rishabh Pant’s dismissal also sustains his dreadful IPL 2025 season by another match. So far this tournament, the cricketer has gathered just 135 runs from 11 innings at a dismal average of 12.27 and at a strike rate of just 100. Moreover, Pant accrued 63 of those runs in a single match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last month.

By the time of publishing, the LSG franchise reached 180/4 from 18.4 overs.
