Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) shared a point with RCB a couple of days ago owing to ceaseless rain in Bengaluru. In what was described as a must-win match for the defending champions, KKR’s campaign came crashing down due to the unavoidable no-result, rendering their final league fixture against SRH a dead rubber.

As per reports, the higher authority of KKR is unhappy with Venkatesh Iyer’s inconsistent returns this season and may reassess his role ahead of the next campaign. Moreover, the report even stated that some of the bigwigs of KKR are also displeased with the tactics of coach Chandrakant Pandit.

According to a Bengal-based newspaper Ei Samay, a section of KKR’s higher authority is reportedly unhappy with the lacklustre returns of star batter and team vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer. Notably, the 30-year-old was acquired by the franchise for a staggering sum of Rs. 23.75 crore back at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Moreover, some of the decision makers of the franchise are also displeased with head coach Chandrakant Pandit, who is being held responsible for the auctioning of the cricketer.

It is worth noting that Venkatesh Iyer played an influential role in KKR’s title-winning run last year in IPL 2024. The left-handed batter racked up 370 runs in just 13 innings of the tournament at an astonishing strike rate of 158.79. In contrast, Iyer has compiled just 142 runs in seven innings this season at a dismal average of 20.28.

The KKR franchise is currently ranked sixth on the IPL 2025 points table for securing just five wins and sustaining six defeats from 13 matches. They will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, May 25.
