Rinku Singh was promoted to play in the 4th spot after Sanju Samson fell for a duck in the third T20I match against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 30. 

Sri Lanka invited India to bat first; however, India found themselves at 14 for 2 in the third over. Rinku Singh was expected to prove his mettle, but he failed to deliver a substantial score as he fell to Maheesh Theekshana, who claimed his second wicket.

The incident occurred during the 4th over of India's innings when Maheesh Theekshana came to bowl his second over and quickly removed India's star batter, Rinku Singh. Rinku was dismissed after scoring just 1 run off 2 balls. 

Theekshana bowled a slower off-break around off stump, prompting Rinku to create space for a shot. Rinku intended to play an inside-out shot over covers, but he mistimed it, hitting the ball off the toe of the bat and sending it high into the air behind the bowler.

Matheesha Pathirana, positioned at mid-on, moved to his right while keeping his eyes on the ball and took a stunning catch to send Rinku Singh back to the pavilion. 

With this wicket, India found themselves in a tough situation, while Sri Lanka, having taken their third wicket, aimed to put more pressure on the visitors.

At the time of writing, India are at 73 for 5 in 12 overs, With Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag at the crease.
