Former Australian World Cup-winning skipper Ricky Ponting is one of the shrewdest minds when it comes to reading and understanding the game from different perspectives. Currently commentating for 7Cricket in the Australia-Pakistan Test series, the 49-year-old produced another moment of brilliance.

It was before the start of play on day 1 of the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) when Ponting, who was describing how to play Shaheen Shah Afridi in the pre-match show, mentioned that moving the third slip to mid-on position would make the batter's mindset shift, thinking that the ball would be a little different than the previous one.

Things turned out similar on day 2 of the game when Mitchell Marsh copped a straight one from Hasan Ali after a similar field change, which resulted in him getting trapped in front of the stumps. Although the decision was later reversed, Ponting's accuracy in predicting the game plan was once again depicted.

Previously, during the Australia-India Test series back in 2020-21, Ponting called it absolutely right when it came to Prithvi Shaw, who was cleaned up by Mitchell Starc by an incoming delivery that the Australian great asked for.

Coming back to the current game, Australia were bowled out for 318, and in reply, Pakistan are in trouble with six down for 194, trailing by 124 after the end of day 2's play.
